iTunes takes a big hit instead of selling them

As reported on TechCrunch, NBC is pulling all of it’s content from iTunes. This is a big deal because NBC content is 40% of iTunes video sales. Obviously a big hit for iTunes this is another indication that iTunes will not and probably can not be as dominant in video as it is in music.

I don’t see iTunes being a long term solution, eventually individual content owners will sell their wares directly. I don’t mean individual bands or shows selling directly but individual labels and networks selling directly. Users would then have some sort of aggregating software installed locally (or not it could be done manually) to help the organize and search for content.

This is the beginning of the end for iTunes in video and there is an end in sight for music as well.
